2023 Blue Marlin Season with FishBazaruto.com
2023 Blue Marlin Season with FishBazaruto.com: We have been real slack here and apologize for it… the last few months we been on the go between Maputo, Santa Maria, Bazaruto, Tofo, San Sebastian, Inhassoro…. Just non-stop!
But we did stop at Warren´s place to fish on the good ship Strenue
and although it was a short trip it was and as usual is on that place really sweet!
That’s got to be one of my top 3 places on this Archipelago and every single trip there is memorable… the pure bliss beauty and magic of it, the solitude, the short 8-minute runs to the fishing grounds, the sunset on the way back, the hot outside showers under the stars and then Chef´s Torres delicious carpaccio’s, sashimi´s, prawns, crayfish and other delicacies…
With scarce game fish…we had to resort to bonito cerviche…delicious actually!
Crayfish on the Braai…
Fish and Crayfish combo…
The fishing was not too shabby as well…
Like the conditions itself it was not fireworks and apart from a shitload of small bonnies and kawas there was very little happening on the pinnacles and a clear and unusual lack of game fish. We spent a fair amount of time all three days chasing game fish for Torres delights and besides a cuta, a barracuda and a nice wahoo we did not have much else.
A foul-hooked wahoo ran like a freight train after the bite, making us think it had a bill ???? but no one was complaining when we boated it… fish croutons on the boat and at the bar!!!
But the real fishing and even with the moderate northerly winds and consequently green water produced the goods.
On two of the days, we went out wide for about 6 hours and one day was just too choppy to do so and we stayed in fairly shallow water.
All in all, we had 5 bites and raised another one and released two Blues up to 500 pounds.
Albeit deeper than usual due to green water and where all the bait (skipjack) was, the Blacks were there on their normal grounds but probably due to that some color water they were sluggish. Both bites on the lures resulted in nose jobs and then we had a fish grab a small live bait and not eat it!
The Blues on the other hand were crash biting with the first fish producing an explosive inside out bite that was the stuff dreams are made of!
Good fun with Warren, Chris and Andrew and really looking forward to getting back there in early October…

Charles_hayter and mh_fishing_tackle for sending through these two beauties from the Bonzelures stables…
Don’t think the Violator needs an introduction as a great rough weather short bait teaser or lure….
Charles told me that he had great success with the small plunger style Kahawai so, after a slow morning on the last day of our last charter decided to rig it and put it out around noon.
Must have been all of 20 minutes when we got our first Marlin bite of the day on it, unfortunately the Black pulled the hook. But we set up and literally 10 minutes later she hooked up again…
Talk about making a grand entrance ????
Making our way to the good ship STRENUE in the morning before running 8 minutes to the MARLIN fishing grounds…PARADISE
Thank you Duarte! Fantastico!
