Anrich Bazaruto Species Collection – Part II
Anrichs Bazaruto Species List: At the end of June, 12-year-old Anrich had a superb week with us where he caught an exceptional number of species both on conventional and on the fly, including his first ever Billfish and biggest fish on fly!!!
On the previous post we reported on his first three fishing days which where nothing short of spectacular and you can see those here…
On the 4th day we decided to take a break from fishing and went with all the family to Santa Carolina (Paradise Island) to spend the day snorkeling, exploring the Island and enjoying a great barbecue on the beach. Of course, Anrich could not just sit by the beach and we still went for a short session by the “hole“ and he got into some nice Yellow spotted Trevally.
The next day, the 28th of June was back to business…
Like the previous few days, we again had an absolute blast of an early morning session on the fly and popper getting a number of cuta, barracuda, rainbow runner and a few small trevally´s – missed a GT on popper and Alex got reefed by one on fly and missed some other good fish on popper.
It went quiet late morning and I asked Anrich if we should go back to the resort, but he was adamant to do a full day and so I decided to travel all the way up north where we had found some good afternoon action the previous days.
Once again Anrich started the day with amazing session and added a few more species to his already impressive Bazaruto Species list for the week. Be it on the light jigging, popper or on the fly there were just screaming reels all over!
We only had two hours left by the time we got there but…did we make the best of it!
As soon as we got there, we caught a bunch of bonnies and missed two wahoo.
The sea was flat calm and I kept working around the pinnacle where all the jube jube´s were showing to the outside of it.
All of a sudden two Sailfish showed up on the teaser, and as we put the pitch baits the two long rigger baits with the lure / strip bait combination with J´s started going.
Long story short with 4 of us on the boat we hooked up to 4 Sailfish…to say it was chaos is an understatement. Poor Anrich had the first rod and seeing we carried on in a circle until we were all hooked up, he now had about 400 meters of line out.
One fish came out but we managed to release three with Alex and Lourenço bringing theirs in and Anrich the last one to be released.
High fives all round but that was not the last of it!
I started heading home but not without first going around the northern side of Aladdin’s and just before getting to it we had a lonely Sailfish come up once again on the teaser we hooked it up and Anrich brought the fish for a release before we headed home.
4 from 5 on Sailfish and a few more species for Anrich on the fly – not a bad day @ the office!
Quadruple hookup on Sailfish with four of us on board was chaotic fun to say the least and ended getting 4 from 5 sailfish bites in the last hour of fishing and Anrich releasing his third and fourth Sailfish for the trip!
Conditions had changed for the next day not only had the northerly blown throughout the night and changed water color which had not been at its best but the tide was not conductive to those early morning sessions we had been enjoying the last few days.
We still had a decent early morning session, nothing huge but a good number of green jobfish and lots of scads, some small kingies and a cuta.
We tried hard for Sailfish but unlike yesterday they were really lazy and although we raised 5 we only got one good bite out of them which pulled the hook after 5 minutes.
We then had two on the teaser that did not switch and another two lazy one´s just following and billing the longs!
Anrich was unlucky to loose a really nice cuta close to the boat on a live jube jube and also released another shark on a live jube jube!
Still another amazing day out there…completely jam packing Anricjs Bazaruto Species list.
One could sense the conditions were changing and our last day was slower but after a week of superb fishing no one was complaining and amazingly Anrich still managed to add some more species to his now impressive tally!
This included a dorado, which was his first ever and the ever-present job fish, snappers, rockcods and another nice crocodile cuta.
What an unforgettable trip it was with Anrich and his Mom Sabrina.
All in all, the boy got a total of 24 species, many of which on the fly….
So awesome to see such patience, enthusiasm and bliss & what a privilege to have given this boy so much joy!
Ended with 6 Sailfish from 7 bites and 12 raised, few wahoos to 24 kg, plenty cuta to 16 kg, dorado, 5 different trevally species, all three species of barracuda, kawa kawa, June jube´s, couple different sharks, countless green jobfish, rosy jobfish, rainbow runner´s, queenfish, a few snapper models, rock cod’s, wolf herring & garfish….
What else could one ask for?
Thanks for making this trip happen Sabrina, it really was a great pleasure and hope to fish with Anrich again sometime in the near future…
…and I know Ulrich would be smiling up above!
