Bazaruto’s BIG Yellowfin
Bazaruto’s BIG Yellowfin: Duarte is back in his home waters and this to report on…
Big Yellowfin Tuna at Bazaruto is somehow a bit of late news as this extraordinary bite was in late August to early September but we were so busy getting it all ready for Bazaruto´s Heavy tackle season that we had very limited time to jump in here…
Anyway, before we got into that the bite certainly had seemed to be picking up in the Azores when we left and after we flew back home on the 9th of September there were some nice ones caught including this hell of a fish for the Bad Company.
She was caught on Capt. Steve Elkins Popsicle lure; the same one they got their giant Black last October off the Bazaruto Archipelago. Both Anthony and Steve told me that she could not catch the lure at first as pushing a massive wave in front of it…well done guys, great fish and she is still swimming out there…

A real one caught a few weeks ago by the Bad Company in the Azores…
After 19 years it was such an epic return to those Beautiful Islands and even if most of our clients did not experience great fishing (Warren certainly did!) it was an epic time with very special people.

Blue Marlin on the bite – if that does not get your blood flowing, not sure what will 😉
And so here we come up with Big Yellowfin Tuna at Bazaruto!
There have been 70 kilo plus fish caught off the Archipelago, those and bigger fish come past the Archipelago, we think mostly between July and August of every year. However, as per longline commercial info they are way deeper than we ever venture, however occasionally they come in shallower and this was one of these years for sure.
They were catching them really good down at Inhaca which tends to me more consistent as the fish seem to come closer in, however as I was packing for my return home Erin Flaxman from Inhassoro send me those pics (thank you) and after a few calls I found out that a few of the boats fishing where finding them out wide between 300 and 700 meters of water and to top it off the Blue Marlin bite that has been somehow real consistent since June was still going strong.
Also reports of a lot of small to midsize Blacks in the normal grounds, we have just finished our first charter for the Heavy tackle Season and will report soon on what´s been happening these last two weeks and the start of the Heavy tackle Season @ Bazaruto
And, how this beauty of a GT caught by my good friend Zuber Martins of Inhaca.
Anyone fishing down there; Maputo, Inhaca & St. Maria, you will be hard pressed to find a better guide – anyone interested to fish down there get in contact.

Cheers
