Mike Koch opens up what we hope will be a great sailfish season!
Winter means sailfish season off Bazaruto and pods of those speedster’s normally start making their appearance off the archipelago in late April. Despite that they have not really showed up in numbers due to unseasonal high temperature waters which is still in the mid 26c.
After a week of mostly plugging, jigging and light tackle live baiting for cuda yesterday we had Mike Koch on board for a day of light tackle conventional trolling.

We put a mixed spread and ended up releasing 2 out of 2 sailfish bites (the first and last strike of the day) and also released a couple of dorado and Yellowfin tuna. Live baited a nice 8kg YFT but unfortunately got sharked by a big zambi which was quiet a struggle on the stand up #50.
The numbers are not up there yet but we hope this means a start to what we hope will be a great winter sailfish run…
