BAZARUTO Sportfishing FISHING SEASON 2025: Aloha everyone….Here we go into another Bazaruto Fishing Season and our packages for the year are out and we got loads of boat and accommodation options, both from the mainland (Vilankulos) or from the Islands (Bazaruto).

Bazaruto SportFishing Seasons – this nice crocodile cuta for Katherine Winston from the US caught last July was a story in itself! Slow trolling down current at Nhangosse we had a surface live jube jube on the port side and a dead one on a heavily weighted Bait-O Matic on the starboard side. Next thing, in 22 meters of water the live bait starts getting and right up a small Black Marlin starts jumping all tangled up on the leader! Had him one for a while but jumped off. I could feel the bait was still alive and while the crew slowly brought it to the boat it was taken again and this time big run and off. As we bring the trace, we see the fish had cut / twisted one of the treble wires! Next the dead bait takes off and we hook up to this beautiful 148 cm specimen which still had the other bait cut in half with the hook in it!!!
LIGHT SPORTFISHING TACKLE EXTRAVAGANZA (APRIL – JULY)
The Bazaruto light tackle season is fast approaching and we still have a few slots available between mid-April to July (we will be away fishing the Azores in August and early September)!
This is a great time of year for non-stop fun action;
The sailfish numbers have been on a constant increase for the last few years and we now seeing some great days with real fast action and when they on the bite we turn the page and specifically target them on bait & switch on spinning tackle or on the fly which is just absolutely mind blowing and visually some of the most exciting light tackle fishing one can have….
The wahoo bite has also been phenomenal and multiple, triple and even more strikes are the norm on these speedster’s which can grow in very respectful sizes here and are some of the best sport one can have on light tackle and…. They also make some of the best sashimi you can have!
Then, and last year was a perfect example, there is always a good chance for a small to mid-size Black Marlin to jump on your sailfish / wahoo lures and we always have a bigger, appropriate outfit ready for one a better fish shows up.
From late May it is also the best time of year for large crocodile cuta and the last two years were the best we have had on the archipelago for a long time with a few fish over 30 kilos caught on live jube jube´s.
This time of year, these little tasty baits are around by the zillions and every single predator fish in this Ocean find those live baits irresistible. We normally troll them at different depths thus covering all the water columns and getting into all kinds of species.
Good time for GT fishing especially April to early June and be it on conventional trolling, slow trolling live baits, popping, spinning, jigging and fly fishing, this time of year is just amazing for fast action and a truly kaleidoscope of species!
We will be fishing aboard our 38ft SuperCat, which very comfortably caters for up to 6 anglers and is the absolute perfect platform for this time of year / fishing out of Vilankulos where we have a number of different accommodation options to fit all preferences and budgets.
However, packages on a 31ft out of Anantara Resort on Bazaruto Island are also available.
HEAVY TACKLE MARLIN SEASON (SEP – early DEC)
The time of year we all anxiously wait for and when the heavy gear comes out of their hibernation!
Last year´s Marlin season was one of the most epic in years with some really nice ones caught by the fleet and, to put the cherry on top, some amazing weather when it peaked. We caught a very large fish as early as the 12th of September, a few more good ones and then on the last day of the season another beast which could have easily topped up at over the mark had we chosen to weigh it!
It just shows that that one special fish everyone who comes to Bazaruto is looking for might just jump on your bait anytime during the season….
Although we will also have a vessel available for popping, spinning jigging, light tackle, fly fishing for those wanting to chase the archipelago´s vast diversity of game fish during that time, this is our peak Heavy Tackle Season on one of the World´s best Giant Black destinations.
We offer all-inclusive packages (accommodation, food, drinks, fishing etc) at Anantara Island Resort & Spa, a high-end resort on Bazaruto Island and all-inclusive fishing on our 31ft and 38ft vessels, however we also have accommodation and charter options on the mainland (Vilankulos).
