Short & Wet day produces another 2 Black Marlin: Duarte checks in…

After almost three weeks of flat calm weather we had a front move in on a few days ago and we could not fish yesterday due to some pretty nasty weather.

This morning, the 21st of October 2025 we woke up and although it was still blowing hard and looked very grey we are all feeling a tad land sick and just want to be out there, so along with @christiaankruger on Grande Azul we decided to go out for a few hours.

Cold and miserable in the rain to start with but the seas were not as bad as we expected and we put the baits out at around 11am.

Right off the bat and on an inside turn at the bottom end of VI mile we get a bite on the swim bait, D.A makes a perfect drop, hooks up and brings the #250 in no time for Fisher to wire and let it go.

All of a sudden it seemed much sunnier and the miserable wetness we all felt was long gone!

It’s been a difficult season when it comes to bait and we are not known for being the most patient to fish for them so quite desperately we have been pulling a couple rapalas and daisy chains close to the boat when pulling the baits or lures to try and stock up on some more bait.

Then about an hour later we AGAIN hooked up on the rapala / minie eye daisy chain combination on the light tackle #20-pound bait rod.

A few moments of chaos as the 100-pound fish went over the bait lines, got caught on the skip bait but with great job from the crew, this time Fisher brought in the fish for D.A to wire and we let go the second of the short day

Small Black released in some pretty heavy seas on the light tackle bait rod by Fisher aboard VAMIZI – pretty cool wild stuff!!!

We still had a third fish come into the spread, scratch the shit out of the swim bait but never got a bite out of it and as it started getting pretty gnarly in the afternoon so we made an early comeback and not looking so good for tomorrow…we shall see!

Grande Azul got a small one on the @pulsatorlures big Marlin magnet and @brucecookefishingcharters on Dorado was the only other boat out there and they pulled the hook on a nice one looking about #700 on a lure close to the boat after an hour!

Hopefully we can get a few hours in there tomorrow….weather looking pretty good after that!

Striped Marlin released on VAMIZI and Drop Your Rods above and a Black Marlin aboard IBO for Jamie Nance.

We never released one the next day but there were a few Blues and striped releases and the best fish was a #400 Black on Dorado.

And that´s 3 from 5 for D.A and Fisher in the first day and half fishing…

Let’s see what tomorrow will bring.

Cheers
