Popper fishing and Giant Trevally at Bazaruto
Popper fishing and Giant Trevally at Bazaruto: As is normal towards the beginning to mid December which is also the tail end of the Heavy Tackle Big Black Marlin Season we start having a few groups wanting to mix it up between Marlin fishing and some jigging and popper.
This year was no different and there was not only a good number of Black Marlin still around (with some decent size fish in between) but, and as is usual this time of year the Giant Trevally fishing was really good, especially top water fish.
Overall the boys were experiencing great fishing with a few Marlin strikes per day, some great fun on light tackle spinning especially on big eye and some other lesser trevallies, some very fast action on the slow jigging and some insane top water popper action.

Big eye trevallies on ultra light spinning gear and the always powerful bludger kingfish on light jigging – that is a whole lot of fun!!!

We had Graeme Garcia and Mitch over a few days and they had some amazing fun everyday in flat calm catching loads of big Kawa’s, bludgers, yellow-spotted trevally and the likes on the Jigging and a lot of big eye’s, green-spots and other smaller kingfish on the light spinning gear.

Popper fishing and Giant Trevally at Bazaruto, but not only and a vast variety of other species are caught while popper fishing on the archipelago
And despite only fishing the heavy tackle for a maximum of two hours each day going from reef to reef, they saw one or more Black Marlin everyday, releasing a couple and missing a real nice one that Alex put it in the horse category. They also got some wahoo as by-catch while trolling.

But the best part was undoubtedly the insane top water popping sessions for Giant Trevally with some decent fish caught and some monster’s that could not be stopped reefing the boys…
This is now the best time for these incredible fish which big species will be around all the way to May.
