Bazaruto / Vilankulos Fishing update June 2017
The Bazaruto and Vilankulos fishing has been really good the last few months and as we reported somewhere else we experienced a really good bite on both Black and Blue Marlin before leaving to Cape Verde in early May.
After I left the boys fishing on Vamizi and some other boats also reported catching some Blacks, this despite not really targeting them but mostly as a by catch while pulling one lure while light tackle fishing for Gamefish.
I still maintain that March to mid-May can be a great time to target Marlin off the Bazaruto Archipelago and from what I have seen the numbers can be as good if not better than during the traditional peak season (Sep-Dec).

On the 22nd of May started the annual Sailfish competition in Vilankulos in beautiful calm conditions that would persist for the all week. There were some sailfish released along with some good wahoo, dorado and yellowfin. But, there were also a few Black Marlin hooked including a 650 pound that team Sailfish fought for a while before parting. Most of the fish encountered on the light tackle were lost but team Game Changer who won the competition released one on the last day.

From June, the fishing has been great and there has been a phenomenal diversity of species both for the jigging and plugging brigade. After the phenomenal wahoo run we had in July and August for the past two seasons, it seems we in for another good one as they have already arrived in decent numbers and good sizes. This last week the boys out from ABAZ fishing on Vamizi have been having great light tackle fun on these, tuna, cuda and a few sailfish.

But, what is most amazing is that despite being the middle of June and not even specifically targeting them the boys have been hooking a few Black Marlin and released a couple over the last few days.
Hopefully this is a good sign for things to come later in the year but for now the boys are enjoying great light tackle fun along with some great spinning, jigging and plugging sessions.
We still in Cape Verde and will the fish a few days in Madeira before making it back to VIlankulos / Bazaruto at the end of July.
