Marlin Bill´s

Marlin Bill´s

We just received Jason´s Marlin bill which we tough we should share.

We have a 100% release policy on our Marlin fishing at Bazaruto but it does happen that they die and when they do, we have had Lynette Adams made us some absolutely stunning huge Marlin Bills which make great trophy´s.

In all these years we have only kept three, two of which well over the mark and the third, well you judge it!

Marlin Bill´s – Two bills from two Big Black Marlin caught in the offshore waters of Bazaruto

Jayson´s fish…

The bill on the right-hand side of the main picture was Jayson´s first ever Marlin.

It was the 14th of December 2020. Our last day of the very short Season we had aboard VAMIZI due to COVID restrictions.

We were at the end of it, the water temperature was already above 28c and our charter with Carl Jankowitz had been slow going.

Just after midday on the last day we caught two Yellowfin tuna out of Sailfish Bay which we rigged live.

Within a few minutes we had the bite and hooked into this beast that almost jumped on the boat 20 minutes into it.

We had the leader then but could not hold the fish or cut it off and she went deep.

Estimated her at #850 then but when she was later sharked and we boated the remains it was clear she was way north of that. She had a ´´70-inch girth – the length, well not possible to measure!!!!

See the link below for a story on that fish and a video of it charging the boat. It’s amazing how smaller the fish looks on the video…many people can’t believe it’s the same fish.

Just shows how video and pictures can be deceiving!

Jerome´s Sedgwick fish…

Early November 2009, the last day of the Bazaruto Maroin Invitational which we fished and won for many years with Mike and Carl Jankowitz.

It was to be the last day I ever fished with Dr. Mike and a memorable one at that.

On board was carl, Mike and their good friend Jerome who had never caught a Marlin before.

Sometime just before midday we get a big mackerel tuna and within a few minutes we hookup to a fish that never jumped for the first 2 hours.

When she finally did it was on the leader right by the boat and we were all in a awe at the size of her.

We had sunset for the last three hours, had the leader 14 times, she was just an absolute beast.

5h40 into it she was spent and the sharks come in and made a meal of it.

A potential new African record sheered to pieces in front of your eyes.

What a magnificent fish…

The remains weighted #1 107 lbs, on the measurements she went past a whopping # 1 400 lbs!

Marlin Bill´s – Monster Black Marlin caught aboard VAMIZI which was unfortunately sharked by the boat after close to a 6 hour fight. The remains of the fish weighted #1107 lbs but the measurements showed the fish could have gone over #1400 lbs

Bazaruto Update…

Although we have not been out we have had some great fishing reports and it seems there is a good winter bite going on with some wahoo and sailfish, loads of yellowfin tuna and dorado and some nice fast action on the jigging and popping…

Here´s a few pictures from this week which Warren and Christopher sent…
