Linene in Winter means Blue Marlin and Amberjack: Another great trip top Linene…

Albeit very short just had another great trip to Linene, it’s difficult to find more adjectives for this place, but when Warren phone´s me for a trip and right on it!

He called last week to see if I was available for a couple days and luckily, I had just finished a charter and had an opening over those days.

First and foremost, Warren is a great guy to fish with and the vibe on the boat with his two deckhands, Justino and Charlie, is just awesome. It also helps that he is always keen to try for Marlin despite conditions and time of year. Then it’s the beauty and remoteness of the place, the chilled pace, the great lodge and staff and the superb meals that Chef Torres and his sidekick Armindo produce day in day out!

And of course, those 10 minutes to and from the fishing grounds are surreal!!!

The fishing had been kind of slow the previous days and that was the case on our first day when we decided to light tackle game fish. Lots of Bonnies and jube jubes around, also caught a bludger trevally and a shark on the troll but overall, it was quiet. The best was live baiting the jube jubes that always produce some cuta and then we had an early afternoon jigging session and caught some amberjack.

Justino with the best of a couple of amberjacks we released on a short fishing session before the end of the first day…

Despite being the peak of winter and the 23c water the next day we decided to go out wide.

The fact is that we have caught Blues out there every month of the year and we actually found the canyon we were going to fish on the great Blue Marlin fishing day in July a few years ago.

Two years later I saw the biggest Blue Marlin I have seen on the Bazaruto Archipelago and that was actually on the 3rd July!!!

Anyway we had a late start and got to the area at 9am and at noon decided to start heading back when BANG….crash strike on the long right Marlin Magnet from Pulsator Lures on a crazy Blue that damped two thirds of the reel before we could turn and Warren released the Blue Marlin which we called about 300 pounds.

Just showing how good the Marlin bite can be year-round off the Bazaruto Archipelago, in a total of a day´s fishing hours in mid-winter, Warren with released a Blue Marlin out of three bites in July, this one coming on our little green devil, also known as Pulsator´s Lures Marlin Magnet!

We trolled back and not much later when we got to just under 200 meters of depth we had another fish, this time on the long-left Xpress – it piled on it, pulled a few yards but the hook never set. Looked like a decent fish but at that depth difficult to say if a Black or Blue!

We ended the day with a short but fruitful deep jigging session with a lot of striped bonito and some good amberjack including a double header for Warren & Justino.

Before heading back to the lodge midafternoon, we stopped for a short but action full jigging session with a number of amberjack and striped bonito and a double header of AJ´s for Warren and Justino on the last drift

Early back at the lodge at 3pm and great grilled prawns’ dinner on the deck @ sunset!!!

Warren was flying back the next day but we decided we would do a couple of hours out deep around the low tide change and right after it we had a third fish – the Blue first come on the right short Big Pulsator Tube, the switched to the long left, missed once, pilled on it again, pulled some string but never found steel!

ARHHRRRHHHH!!!!

Could have been a great end to a couple awesome days – but it was not to be.

But three Marlin bites for the time we put in was absolutely awesome and always great when you release one!!!

Happy days!
