Bazaruto December Black Marlin Bite…

Bazaruto December Black Marlin Bite. Obviously, because it’s into the holiday season, kids school holidays and so forth we are often asked – how is the Marlin fishing in December?

My normal answer would be that it is the tail end of the Season and it really depends on the year and how early the very warm water makes the fish go lethargic and the ocean surface sterile.

But I always mention that we do, realistically catch Marlin year round and that one of the best bites we have ever experienced fishing the Archipelago for the last 25 years was on the first week of December a few years ago and, add that we have caught a whole lot of very Big fish in the last month of the year!

Back a few years ago we used to fish well into December.

After the hard core Marlin Anglers left we used to fish with resort holiday makers into December. The calm weather and good fishing we had then, created a few regulars which kept coming back year.

A lot were groups that wanted to mix between marlin and game fishing as well as GT fishing which can be excellent that time of year.

A few years ago, going through those logbooks I realized that we used to have excellent fishing and caught many big fish into Bazaruto December Black Marlin Bite and actually wrote this article on it…

Well, is it that we just stopped fishing it?!

This last season certainly seems to show that this is so, despite very few boats targeting them, Black Marlin were caught regularly throughout the month and into early January!

Bazaruto December Black Marlin Bite was pretty good this past year , lots of calm seas and the few boats targeting them regularly catching fish including a few good ones and even a few Blue Marlin for the boats that ventured out wide.

Our boys on IBO & Vamizi did really well and despite mostly fishing half days for game fishing with most of the resort guests they always had a couple of lures out on the longs and released Black Marlin on an almost daily basis.

Ryan Rolfe on the 38ft Drop Your Rods, came down for a week and also released a good number of fish and saw a bunch over his week’s fishing along with some sailfish in the mix

Fishing down south @Shaunmac1970 aboard Tartaruga II also had a an gem of a week in December going 2 from 2 on light tackle live bait the first day and catching a few more Blacks out of 9 raised along with a few sailfish for the trip as well as many game fish and some brilliant GT fishing.

Eran Wilson also came down in December and spent three days out wide having 9 Blues up, missing and pulling the hooks on a few and releasing two fish.

Due to Covid our 2019 season was highly interrupted and with flights only opening on the 15th November we fish much later than usual.

After fishing a week in late November Carl Jankowitz decided to come back in December and on our last fishing day his son in law Jayson hooked up to a beast on a Yellowfin Tuna live bait deep at the bottom end of Sailfish bay.

Unfortunately we had the fish on the leader but had to dump it and the fish got taken by a massive tiger shark right by the boat. With a 71 girth it was a real nice one for Jayson’s first ever Marlin!
