Bazaruto Light spinning tackle
The last few weeks we have had some absolutely awesome ultra-light spinning tackle sessions!!! Here´s some pics of some really nice fun fish…
The Bazaruto Archipelago is World renowned for its heavy tackle fishing, and despite there being good Blues, Striped Marlin and good numbers of Sailfish, it’s the Giant Black Marlin that brings Anglers to these waters year and year.
The heavy popping and Jigging GT fishing is also almost a religion in the area not only for the size fish that it can produce but also for the other innumerous prize species this techniques can produce.
The archipelago certainly as a kaleidoscope of species and fishing techniques for everyone and something we love doing either when doing a bait session for Marlin or just for the sheer enjoyment of it is light tackle spinning…
First and foremost, you got the all-trevally gang to contend with and in these waters that´s 11 species including the most sought after, the GT which even small models can be great fun on the right tackle.
On bait sessions we looking for anything we can skip with bonito (mackerel tuna), skipjack and smaller Yellowfin’s tuna being the best…but this is mostly out there when we see the birds working. On the shallow reefs what we really looking for is the 5 spotted queenfish, AKA pennies which make the best Marlin swim baits.
But there´s so much more to it and light tackle spinning or using light soft baits or jigs can and do produce so many species…way too many to count but most usual being king & queen mackerel (and the later are thick at the time), pinkandle & great barracuda, 5 spotted & Talang queenfish, garfish, green jobfish, speckled & many other snapper´s, groupers, torpedo scads, ladyfish, rainbow runner, etc etc etc etc etc etc….
Then when you found some offshore flotsam one can bring those light sticks and have awesome fun on Dorado, wahoo, tropical yellowtail and anything else that’s around …
So yeah, whatever the mission or target these outfits are never far. We like to use a 9ft Shimano Vengeance 50-100 grs, Stella 5000 loaded with 20-to-30-pound braid and then those 28 grs iron candy spoons on 40 pound fluorocarbon leader are deadly…
This is also the perfect fishing to do with young kids and for the fly enthusiasts bring anything from an 8 to a 12-weight fly outfit and join in the fun….
