Miss Lucy and Bazaruto´s end of year…

After finishing last year´s heavy tackle Marlin Season the boys on VAMIZI & IBO still had some charters, mostly with holiday makers staying at the resort.

There was still some pretty good action all the way to the end of December with a steady bite on a good number of Black Marlin along with some Sailfish releases.

The boys were also finding some good gamefish, namely wahoo, dorado and Yellowfin tuna and, as is usual this time of year there was some great popping, spinning and jigging to be had with the usual kaleidoscope of trevally species making for most of the action.

Holiday´s with Miss Lucy…

We left the boys back @ Bazaruto and went down on a month-long family holiday to South Africa and had a blast of a time.

Spent two weeks in St. Francis and then a road trip to Plettenberg Bay, George, Stellenbosch and Cape Town. We were really spoiled with amazing quality time with family and friends and got to see what must be one of the most picturesque coastlines in the World – and the trip back into the interior was not too shabby either!

Thank you to everyone who made our trip so special…

Of course, we had to have some fishing into it and the two weeks we spent @ St. Francis was full on with daily sessions fishing for Grunter on the river along with small stumpies.

Insane nonstop afternoon session…

But we also went out to sea courtesy of Warren Chapman who´s got a beautiful Rodman down there and were treated to an amazing afternoon session where we caught and released well over a 100 fish, mostly carpenters but also bonitos, lots of mackerel, a geelbeck and other odds & ends. And, albeit most were small the young boys had amazing fun and yours truly got to catch his first Miss Lucy, which at (if I recall correctly) 6.2kg was apparently the biggest the boy’s had caught there for a while…

Great fun!!!

Santa Maria Warming up…

And as is normal Santa Maria´s Marlin bite started to get really hot as we went into December.

And this despite there being hardly any boats fishing early into the month and then some very dodgy weather closer to Christmas and New Year when there were a few boats trying to get out there.

But when they did boats had a steady Blue and Striped Marlin bite along with some inshore blacks and sails. One of those Blacks which was lost after an hour was estimated well in excess of 800 pounds
