Carl finishes it off with a #600 Black Marlin
Carl finishes it off with a #600 Black Marlin: Carl Jankowitz needs to introduction to those that know the Bazaruto waters, Mr. Grander as caught so many big fish with us over the last two decades and he has not only put in many days but he has also got a little star on big fish and we have enjoyed some amazing days on the water together aboard VAMIZI over the years.
Last year we had some amazing fishing including three really good fish, the biggest at 1245 pounds.
However this year has not been so kind to him and he had a real slow time in the Azores in late August / early September and although we caught a few at Bazaruto on during his trip we needed a nice fish so it was very special to get this one on his last day, the 07th Nov 2025.
There have been some really good fish the last few days.

@liammacdonald_fishing on Aladdin caught a #850 yesterday and today they got a #900, that´s two brilliant back-to-back fish! Unfortuently not great pics…
Yesterday we released a sailfish and missed one on the skip and raised another on the swim.
Peter and Denise started with us @fishbazaruto yesterday aboard the 38ft Drop Your Rods with @christiaankruger and they went 1 from 1 on a #450
Veleiro also went 2 from 2 yesterday, Spanish Fly went 1 from 1 and Grande Azul also got one.
But the boys on the Reel Screamer had one hell of a day yesterday and released a #900 for @mccarthy_pat and a #600 for @dyl_ziehl at the top end of Sailfish Bay.

Sailfish aboard Vamizi…
So, today everyone was in that area for most of the day.
Loads of traffic but quiet slow for everyone until after noon.
With that many boars around we decided to leave and tack north so as to work the lighthouse area at the end of the incoming.
We got there and had the area to ourselves and after not even smelling a bite for the whole day rush hour came in at 2pm.
We did a shallower tack to the inside of south Alladins where we have caught a few fish this season and on the turn we got a bite on the swim.
The 200 pounder started jumping and Carl got in the chair.
Right next to the boat, double about 12 ft away the fish pulled – think he was wrapped up.
We put the baits out and within 10 minutes raised another but got no bite out of it.
We worked that area and 15 minutes later got another bite also on the swim but the hook never set.
Then just before 3pm we had the fourth fish up within an hour and this was the one that mattered and we hooked up.
What a fun fish, loads of jumps, real heavy drag, got him on the leader but she was real frisky and Alex had to dump her.
Put even more heat and got the leader again, loads of jumps and we let her go at #600
What a way to finish the charter and so glad we got a nice one for Carl.
He really deserved that one!
We have three days off now, great to have the family on the Island, some time to catch up on admin, tackle and boat maintenance and we start again on Monday with Mark Davis from the US
