Kids to be banned from fishing Bazaruto too…

Kids to be banned from fishing Bazaruto too…well that’s my opinion, especially after seeing how these kids whack the fish at BD too. Click HERE for that story…Sean.

Over to Duarte…

Over the weekend we had the pleasure of fishing with some absolutely amazing kids at Vilankulos fishing the southern area of the Bazaruto Archipelago and they absolutely smashed it, catching some impressive PB’s and giving us so much enjoyment and joy.

We spent some time shallow jigging for a diversity of small species, each with its own points and the youngster’s enjoyed a healthy competition and lots of laughs.

But when the going got tough they were right there on top of it all catching some very impressive specimens…

Sisi, the jigging machine…

This young 9 year old girl totally amazed me with her enthusiasm, stamina and most of all her technique with a jigging rod as to be seen to be believed.

Normally I have to ask the guys to speed it up (very easy from the bridge 🙂 but with Sisi, at times, in the shallow reefs and when the game fish were not running, I actually had to tell her to slow down so as to get some more bites from other species!

And to utter amazement when we went deep water jigging and the boys brought out the big guns and 300+grs jigs there she came with a fairly light rod and 200gr jig. I rolled my eyes but, despite the 100 meter depth she worked that jig beautifully and got into a few striped bonito. Then to top it off and not to be outdone she hooked, fought and released a beauty of an amberjack.

Among many other species, late in the afternoon she also released a beauty of a Yellow-spotted trevally to finish the day on a high.

Well done girl on your new PB Sisi – you rock!

Not to be outdone Sisi’s brother, Hector (11) was right into the thick of it and worked tirelessly and caught many fish over the two days including his new personal best fish, this brute of a barracuda that fell prey to a live jube jube on the spinning tackle.

Well done boy!

Mathew was the third youngster in the group and despite being 9 he is built like a machine and looks way older. We first fished with him when he was only a small 4 year old boy and his turned out into a fine fisherman and when we went deep jigging in a 100 meters of water he did not shy away and like the adults stuck a 320 grs jig at the end of his outfit and sure enough caught and released this beauty of a amberjack.

Just got to love fishing with kids…
