Insane Winter Light-tackle Fishing Season at Bazaruto

Insane Winter Light-tackle Fishing Season at Bazaruto: It’s been two months since we got back from our road trip and since then it’s been insane light tackle fishing and it just carries on and on and on…

We have been all over the place from up north fishing from Inhassoro, down south to Linene and everywhere in between and from Blue and Black Marlin, Sailfish, wahoo, dorado, big cuda, yellowfin tuna just to mention a few, we have had it all!

As we do every year, we did a trip down to Warren´s heavenly place at Linene in mid-May which although was slow for Marlin due to green water the light tackle fishing was amazing and we had a great time pitch baiting for sailfish and catching some crod cuda on the live jube jube´s.

You can see that trip here…

Well, Warren phoned a couple weeks ago as he was planning to come up for a few days at the end of June to early July and we decided on a few days…

We had a real low-pressure system when he arrived on the 26th June and it rained on as we made our way to his place.

The next day it was still howling and as Warren had some work to do we decided to stay and I spent the all-day rigging…. Always nice to spend a day at that place. The only problem was we had no fish for Chef Torres to make us his insanely delicious sashimi´s!!!!

It was still blowing a tad the next day but that was all forgotten very quickly as we got into fish after fish….

The bludger kingfish were wild on the inside and multiple and triple strikes on them were on the go.

There were also a few Yellowspotted trevally around.

And those things are just mind blowing to catch.

After that and as we moved further out it was the wahoo and so it continued.

Nonstop action!

We went in at 10am but then had another insane afternoon session with wahoo and bludgers once again, the last going wild and we even had a quintuple strike – chaos!

The next morning was the same and this time we also caught some cuda, Yellowfin tunaand missed a sailfish action.

The wahoo action was absolutely insane!

Mid-morning, we went back to VNX. I had to be dropped off and Warren had his son and friends coming over and for the next few days it was flat clam and the fast light tackle fishing just continued.

Insane light-tackle fishing

Absolute blast of a week with many good species caught, so shortage of sashimi, carpaccio´s and other delights and of course screaming reels on many good fish.

From sailfish to countless wahoo´s, to big cuda, yellowfin tuna, dorado, bludgers, yellow spotted trevally and some other species on the jig!

Here’s a few more pics from the week…

Insane light-tackle fishing for wahoo the last month with multiple to triple strikes being the norm and some really good specimens amongst them. For us and without a bill that is probably the most fun fish to catch on light tackle and when they are on it is wild!

Giant Trevally AKA GT caught on a light tackle trolled live jube jube outside the linene reef´s…

Although the bite was not as good as a few weeks ago there were some good sailfish around and here the boys aboard Strenue releasing one of two fish they released out of a triple strike.

There has also been a considerable number of small Black Marlin that are great fun to catch on the light tackle and Morgan O´Kennedy on Spanish Fly put their guests into two releases on light tackle just a few days ago…

And how´s this beast of a dorado caught aboard Raffaella down south at Santa Maria…
