Over 150 gamefish from 24 species in 4 days!!!

Sometimes the stars align and give you some very special moments but nothing would prepare us for the insane fishing we had the 4 days we fished with Chris, Justin, Geoff and Paul from @clonelures aboard the 38ft SuperCat – Drop Your Rods when in 4 fishing days (most of which in terrible weather) we caught over a 150-game fish from 24 species!!!

Last year the boys came around the same time and as is so normal in June we experienced some great diversity of light tackle fishing a lot of it fishing the always productive live jube jubes.

But this June has hardly been anything but the norm. In what is normally the most placid weather month of the year we have had some pretty strong and long cold front´s pushing through, this has meant plunging and colder than usual temperatures and all that comes with it – most of all the lack of jube jubes which are normally here by the zillions this time of year and provide not only bait but food source for all our winter species, especially wahoo and big crocodile cuta!

Here is last year´s report with the boys;

This time around with the lack of available live bait we had to resort to a diversity of methods, from light tackle conventional trolling, to some live baiting but then also popping, spinning and heavy and light jigging!

In the end it paid off BIG TIME and we caught Sailfish, loads of wahoo (including a quintuple strike), dorado, Yellowfin tuna, Kawa Kawa, skipjack and some more species on the light conventional trolling as well as a number of cuta (king mackerel) on the jube jube live baits.

We then caught Amberjack and Striped Bonito, both a first species for the boys, on the deep jigging and the rest was on poppers, some light tackle jigging and mostly on the #clonelures stick baits.

We released 18 GT´s, countless yellow spotted and bludger trevally´s along with a few bluefin, brassy´s, Black spot and other carangidae. A really nice Giant barracuda, loads of big garfish, queenfish, a large White Spotted Rockcod and some more critters to make it to 24 species…

Absolutely mind-blowing fishing and fun & nonstop action…
