This last week we had the @naughtyboys2.0 gang around – our good friends from PE, Gary and Tanya Thomson on their third trip to fish with us at Bazaruto. This time around they came with the children Luke, Daniel and Bryan and it was great to meet the boys and spend time in & out the water!
Despite only having fished together a few times we have become good friends and let me tell you we have some stories, a lot of fun and some big laughs over these last few years.
Just ask Tanya about the Kona stories!!!! 😉
Their first trip with us was back in 2021 just after Covid – unfortunately being the peak of the Marlin season I was already booed so they ended up fishing on our second boat IBO with Alberto at the helm and Americo on the deck. I was fishing with my guests but every night we had a ball at the bar. And both Tanya and Gary released Black Marlin… Here is a report of that part of that special season that 2021 was!!!
Next up they come in November 2023, this time also during the peak of the Marlin Season but to my utter frustration mostly to jig 😉 once again we had a great time!
This time around we fished from Vilankulos on the beautiful SuperCat 38ft Drop Your Rods and it was FKNUNBLVBLE!
This trip was more a family trip with a few nights in Vilankulos staying at BahiaMar Boutique Hotel and then another 4 nights at Anantara on Bazaruto Island, but of course we had to put a couple fishing days in there!
With green water and messy seas down south our first day was slow although the highlight of the day was 7-year-old Bryan´s first cuta, and a good one at that!
The next day we changed tacks….

It dawned beautifully and with the rising sun we headed north in flat calm seas and sunny skies.
With such green water and horrible trolling conditions, we decided the way to go was light tackle fishing for an action-packed day for the young lad.
Today was not about quality but quantity and lots of fun for Bryan and it started fast as we trolled the light rigs and had bite after bite, many multiples and lots of releases.
Got to take my hat off to that boy as he never stopped throughout the day and did brilliantly releasing a bunch of fish from a total of 9 species most of which on the ultra-light jigging tackle.
Right on the last drift everyone was in go home mode sipping a cold one at the GAP, of course Bryan was still at it with his 80 grs jig and right then he hooked this beautiful
Golden trevally on his light rod – perfect end to a great day!

Five species of trevallies, queenfish, Green jobfish, Triggerfish and loads of torpedo scads!!! Overall, we caught a bunch of more fish and many species including some big yellow spotted trevally for Daddy Gary and some beautiful looking bottoms on the jigs including a stunning goatfish for Tanya!
Great fun with awesome people, already missing you & looking forward to next time…
