Bazaruto Heavy Tackle Season – late October report
There was a bit of a lull during the big tide on the full moon and some very sporty weather. Boats up at the top found very difficult conditions but there were some good fish showing down at the bottom end.
On the 17th just before a big blow, that put the fishing on hold for a few days, only a few fish were seen by the couple boats out there. Only one caught, but a good one at that at #750 on Veleiro. The fish ate a scad skip bait.
It was still blowing hard on the 20th but some boats went out and Strenue had a top day down south releasing one of four fish at #700. The fish ate a bonito live bait.
They hooked a bigger fish, also on a live bait, but where unlucky to have the chair´s gimbal break and, in the maelstrom of weather and dealing with it where unfortunate to drove over the line and part the fish.
Beluba caught a baby fish while looking for bait in the shallows and then a little guy on the lures.
Conditions improved the next day.
But still a slow bite although a few fish seen, two big fish pulled the hooks and Streneu 1 from 2 on a #250 down south.
The Kraken decided to have a look out wide and ended 2 from 2 on Blues.
Finally, couple days after the full moon and some bait and surface activity started to show.
But there seemed to be a few fish showing and there were a few caught over the next few days but the best a #500 on Big Bob.
The 24th was hard luck day as three good fish lost by the few boats out there.
Streneu only put in a three-hour session early morning and lost one in the #900 region.
Big Bob pulled the hook on one by the boat they called the best they have seen in the last couple years.
And, Quatro an estimated 800-pound fish they had on for a couple hours.
We only fished two days over the last week. The 22nd and 23rd October with Andrew and Brenda Marchussen, who had last fished with us 8 years ago, exactly at the same time in 2013 and had both got their first Marlin then.
This time the limited time available to us did not go our way. Conditions where really hard on the 22nd with no bait showing at all and we missed a bite on the swim bait late morning.
The next day was much better in terms of activity and lots of skipjack and yellowfin up north. We had some beautiful live baits but all where eventually taxed and Andrew had to deal with some XXL bull sharks to the boat.
The only Marlin bite we had for the day tough was on the a #300 that missed the skip then took the swim bait. Unluckily we pulled the hook close to the boat and upon closer inspection the fish had wrapped the leader round the bill.
Nice fish for Veleiro which they put at #900 pounds on the 24th October
The fish ate a skip bait between sailfish and 9 miles at the turn of the low tide!

We had Gary and Tanya Thomson on Vamizi and they had two great days with Gary releasing his first ever Marlin on the first day.
A great present for his 50tyh birthday.
Their second day was even better with Tanya releasing her first ever Marlin and then going 2 for 2 on sailfish.
Their third day fished with a double hookup but one fish pulled and they released the other.
On the 25th Strenue lost a fish early in the morning and then raised one but no bite out of it.
Salt Shaker also had a 600-pounder messing around their live bait but no bite.
A Vida lost a big fish on a lure, Veleiro missed a good one on a skip bait, and Marlin released a fish they put at #650 on a skip bait.
The wind come up stiff on the 26th and only a couple boats fished in the morning with Suli Suli releasing a #500 up north and Big Bob a fat rat down at Giants….Great pic by Divan Koetze
It was a blowout for the next two days and then on the 29th myself and Warren went out on Big Bob pulling the hooks o a #400 on a early bite and Warren releasing a little guy later in the day.
Veleiro releaseda #500 on a libe bait and Marlin a little guy on the lures.
No really big fish for the last two days of October although a few little one´s where released.
