More Marlin, Fly fishing for Trout & Rest in Peace PF

More Marlin, Fly fishing for Trout & Rest in Peace PF: Back in the 80’s a small kid and a grown man used to fight endlessly aboard the infamous Xiphias but they also shared a lot of special times and along with Capt. Moreira Rato (Dad), Carlos Manafaia, Luis Bernardo Howana, Fao and so many others won numerous fishing tournaments at Inhaca and Maputo, broke some records along the way and shared unforgettable memories.

Back to the 80’s – Duarte & PF with a bag of Talang queenfish…

That kid was me and the grown man PF (Pinto Ferreira) who was my Dad’s fishing companion since I was a little boy and who was there on my first sea outings, for my first big GT, my first billfish and so many other moments.

He was always so kind as to give his house to us crazy bunch of snotty naughty kids for the infamous Natacha’s parties at Bairro do Triunfo. The break-dancing (that is how long ago it was), the first slow dances, the first beers and girls…

Pinto Ferreira left us a few days ago….

Fly-fishing for trout

Gretha has been going down to spend time with little Duarte on every boarding school break and as usual the days involve fishing and fishing.

Last time around they went to…. and for Duarte’s first experience at fly fishing and he got some trout including a couple they kept to braai for dinner.

He is on his way up for a 3 week holiday, first time back home since early December last year so yeah we will be fishing a lot with him the next few weeks…

Catch & cook

Just got back from a short trip to SA to see how the new boat is coming along which is beyond expectations – full customized for our waters she’s coming along really nicely and getting to the final stages to hopefully be ready for the start of the season in early September

Blue Marlin release

Fishing is still pretty slow on the inshore really odd year so far but the Marlin bite, although not as strong as a few weeks ago, is still pretty solid with a few Blues (and YFT) out wide and a lot of small Blacks shallower.

We had a number of groups fishing from Bazaruto on Vamizi and Cujo and some others fishing from Vilankulos on the 38ft Drop Your Rods and some absolutely beautiful weather and pretty solid fishing – not what you would expect this time of year but as long as the Marlin bite is strong happy days!

Blue Marlin Season

After this (and last year’s) exceptional bite bookings are coming through fast and furiously for next year’s Blue Marlin May and June bite. We only got one week slot left available so get in touch soon if you want to visit Vilankulos & the Bazaruto Archipelago during this beautiful, calm and stunning time of year…
