Jordan´s first Blue Marlin, Sailfish & PB´s…

We recently had a few fantastic days aboard Wayne Hollard´s 32ft Two Oceans Magnum “ JAM PACKED“ where amongst many other fish, his son Jordan, caught his first Blue Marlin, his first Sailfish, his first fish on popper and broke a couple of personal bests.

Besides that, we all caught a bunch of other good game fish, this in the middle of winter, showing Bazaruto´s year-round diversity and quality of fishing.

Besides the great action packed and beautiful weather days we had a great time of the water with many laugh’s and dorros in between while staying at Inhassoro´s Cashew Bay Lodge.

Game fishing & Jordan´s Personal bests…

The first couple of day´s where spent game fishing. Mostly for cuta using live jube jube´s, or failing that dead ones and mackerel slow trolled on Pulsator´s banana chin weights.

The action was outstanding, especially when we had live bait and it hardly took more than a few minutes for the baits to get taken by crocodile cuta, but also wahoo, rainbow runners and a few other odds and ends.

But the cuta bite was what we were there for and it was phenomenal with many good fish exceeding 15 and 20 kilos and by the end of it, Jordan had caught his personal best cuta (King mackerel) and wahoo.

Jordan´s first Blue Marlin, Sailfish & PB´s – The first couple of days where spent game fishing and we caught a bunch of big cuta and wahoo including Jordan´s personal bests on both species. But everyone had a good pull including a few good one´s for Gary and Wayne as shown below…

Sailfish

Wayne had mention before the trip that he would really like to try and get Jordan´s first Sailfish. So, with enough game fishing being us we left in pursuit of a sailfish for Jordan. Once again we had a late morning and this time, we choose to have a shorter ride and, instead of going to the northern pinnacles, fish the outside of Bazaruto´s lighthouse.

We set the spread of three lure/strip baits combinations on the riggers and two teasers short with some stand by circle hook rigged pitch baits on the cockpit.

We had not been trolling for 30 minutes when a Sailfish showed behind the left teasers, a hot pink Flippy Floppy. We teased the fish in and presented the circle hook rig strip bait on a spinning rod with a saragosa 8000 and got the bite. And, just like that Jordan released his first Sailfish.

This is easy 🙂

An hour or so later we hooked yet again to another sailfish. This time on the shotgun lure and strip combination and Wayne brought that one in for a release.

It slowed down on the Sailfish bite and we ended the 2 for 2 on those speedsters with a couple good wahoo and bonnies to finish it off.

Nice sequence of Jordan´s first ever Sailfish, caught on a circle hook pitch bait on a spinning rod of Bazaruto Island.

Jordan with yet another nice wahoo, by catch on the day we set out to catch his first saily and below his Dad, Wayne with another Sailfish released for the day.

Blue Marlin

With personal bests and his first Sailfish the obvious thing would be to try and get Jordan his first Blue Marlin. I had already mentioned a few times that June was a good time to target These and Wayne´s arm was not to difficult to twist at all.

The next morning, we left, once again to Bazaruto´s lighthouse in pursuit of Jordan´s first Blue Marlin.

We started shallow to get some fresh pitch baits and with two bonnies on the deck we set the spread. Two long lures with hooks on the #130´s and big lures on the shorts as teasers with a couple circle hook pitch bait ready to go on the 80´s.

We were in 300 meters of water, only about half way to the deeper area we had chosen to fish when we got a crash bite on the long right Pulsator Marlin Magnet.

Hookup…

It was the first Jordan ever got in the chair and he did an extremely good job!

And, just like that Jordan released his first Blue Marlin!

This is easy 🙂  Part 2

It was still early and we had a good chance of another bite.

About an hour and a half later we got one exploding on the Williamson Short Corner leader.

Put the pitch out but it never switched.

If felt good out there and we still had the tide change ahead of us!

Insane bite!!!

Half an hour before the low we got another fish come in the short corner teaser.

Hell of an aggressive one and all over it – crashing it time and time again as we pulled it in.

The pitch bait was out but then he disappeared.

Everybody´s eyes were on that pitch bait when it come back for the most insane bite.

It was the first time everyone on board had seen a Blue Marlin pitch bait bite and I just heard an ohhhhhhhhhh!!!!! murmur behind me.

At the end of the trip I asked Jordan what his favorite part of the trip was. This after him having got his personal two PB´s as well as his first Blue Marlin and Sailfish.

He gave the answer I was expecting; that insane pitch bait Blue Marlin bite!!!

We hooked up on that one but unfortunately the fish created a belly on the drop and then started jumping towards the boat as only Blues can and landed on it.

Great day anyway and once again we got what we set our minds to on the day!

Mission accomplished!

Jordan with his first ever Blue Marlin….

The cold one’s where flowing quite nicely on the way back 🙂

We went wide again the next day.

It was a much colder morning and the wind had shifted.

It did not look as fishy and it turned to be much slower.

We missed a Blue Marlin that crashed the long left, jumped twice and come undone.

We decided to cut the day shorter and to have a popping session on the way back and try to get Jordan´s first fish on a popper, ideally a GT!

Popping!

We did not get a Geet but could hardly have had a better end to the trip, especially for Jordan.

In the short session he released no less than 5 bus Yellow spotted trevally´s in as many drifts.

Jordan with his first ever fish on a popper – he proceeded to catch another four in the next four short drifts to end a great week…
The 32ft Magnum JAM PACKED on the mooring after another day´s fishing of the Bazaruto Archipelago – Mozambique.

…and just like that 5 days of insane fishing had just gone by.

Every single day we managed to come out with the goods that we set out to do, real special trip for the young lad…and everyone else!

Thanks…

Thanks to Wayne, Greg, Craig, Jordan and lance for the great week in and out the water, really special…

Top Derek and everyone at Cashew Bay Lodge for the effort, company, hard work and delicious Pizza´s.

Thanks to Pulsator for all the lures and gear over the years…those banana chin weights work great, the daisy chains catch us as much bait as we need or want and that Marlin Magnet along with some other´s from the stable just keep producing.
