Weekend at BD

Weekend at BD: After the beach spinning madness, the kids experienced 2 weeks ago at BD they were talking about a return trip every day and night and seeing they had exam week we thought it was only fair to give them a little something special for the weekend.

Not that they had to bend my arm a lot to go and do some light tackle beach fishing in that absolute beautiful place!

Especially after the incredible fishing they experienced on the previous trip!

We were initially supposed to be a big group but for one reason or another everyone could not make it, so it was just the four of us which is always special and very nice to have a proper family bond!

We picked the kids from School just after lunch and we set off…

Unfortunately, we had a few delays which was an adventure on its own and only got to BD itself at dusk so we could only put a few casts in the dark.

It was a pity as it was such perfect weather which changed overnight and the next day was blowing a stiff Southerly which made for very cold and difficult conditions.

But we woke up early, walked 3 minutes from the house to the shore line and in true form Duarte very quickly caught the first cuta of the trip…

Duarte with the first cuta for the trip which we kept for the braai that night on what he said was one of the best tasting fish he has ever had – super fresh for sure!!!

During the mid-hours of the day the kids spent their time catching live hardheads, sardines and small carapau and using them as live bait mostly targeting flat heads / crocodile fish of the sunken trees on the eastern edge of the beach.

Fishing & chilling, let the good times roll!

Late afternoon we went back to the area in front of the house and although it was slow about an hour before sunset, we had a bit of a happy hour there…

The best was Dario, who is not that much into fishing, practicing his casts and hooking up and catching a barracuda – he was so happy and just got into it from then on!

Dario with a barracuda and garfish he released on the light tackle…

All in all, such a great weekend in such a remote and special place just a couple hours away from home…

On the Sunday just before lunch and leaving I went to pick up the last rod from the beach just after midday. I picked up the rod and started walking back to the house…well let me just have the last three casts! Hooked up on a cuta on the first cast but unfortunately spit the hook. Quick recast and hooked up again this time landing and releasing this little fellow, great sport on the ultra-light spinning gear.

Special family times – got to love it!!!!
