Bazaruto Late September ’26 Fishing report

Fishing report: Here’s a day-to-day report from the last week or so in September from the Bazaruto Archipelago.

If you’ve been following it it’s been an absolutely insane bite since May, especially out wide for Blues and Striped Marlin but it went into overdrive in late August and into mid September with boats seeing crazy numbers of fish daily. We had an absolute crazy maiden two day trip on the new lady LINENE going 8 from 13 and seeing 18 fish in those two days!

It sort of slowed down a tad the last week and a half with the current slacking down but still good fish around and more importantly some bigger Black Marlin showing with the first big fish of the season being caught aboard Spanish Fly estimated at 900+ pounds.

 Here we go….

20th September 2026

IBO went 1 from 1 on a Blue Marlin on a Half Day

We had Geoff Devine Jones from the UK that fished with us for the first time last year. He is now fishing with Alex aboard VAMIZI and although they did not get any Marlin bites the first day (Friday) they did run into some big YFT and Geoff had his arm’s stretched properly on these hard deep fighting fish. Today they again caught some tuna and pulled the hook on a decent-sized Blue. Geoff went to have another couple days and was unfortunate to have lost a real big Black Marlin that he put into the goose bump category, breaking off after 3 hours!

On Friday VELEIRO went 1 from 2 on Blues, SALT SHAKER 1 from 1 on a Blue, LEGASEA who had caught a striped the previous day out of three bites  went 1 from 1 on a Blue and STRENUE went 1 from 1 on a Black on a Half Day.

On Saturday we had Sam Roberts and Harry from the US starting with Christiaan aboard DROP YOUR RODS and they ended 1 from 4 and raised another one including bites from Blues, Blacks and Striped Marlin. Sam’s first Marlin as well so a really nice start for the boys. Today they pulled the hook on a striped right next to the boat and missed another. But they did get some YFT!

We also had Stefano from Italy that tried to book with us a few weeks ago but because we were full we ended up going with SEA BISCUIT and fished inshore and went 1 from 1 on a decent Black on the light tackle and then 0 from 2 on blacks the yesterday.

She’s a beauty and proving to be a real fish raiser….

21st September 2026

A bit slower today with the current completely slacking off…

Our clients on VAMIZI pulled the hook on a nice Blue out wide and on DUR  they lost a striped right by the boat and missed another.

22nd September  2026

We put LINENE back on the water and went out for a few hours, had a big YFT busting our starboard teaser and got a few YFT and Skipjack

Again overall a slower bite and fish not really committing…

DUR had a slow day but did get a beauty of a dorado for Sam Roberts

VAMIZI pulled the hook on a Blue

Up north LEGASEA had better luck going 2 from 2 on Blues

Beautiful dorado for Sam Roberts aboard DROP YOUR RODS

23rd September 2026

Beautiful day and we took LINENE out with the ButtCat crowd for a few hours before they flew out and started with a double, missed one on the pitch but hooked the other on the lure and Ian was unfortunate to have pulled the hook right by the boat. Later we had another come on the Big Tube teaser from Pulsator, made a perfect switch and we came tight and line peeling and it came off, obviously hook never set!!!

LEGASEA also with some back luck going 0 from 2 pulling the hooks on a real nice one 20 minutes into it!

But the catch of the day went to Spanish Fly with the first Big Black of the Season!

While still putting out a bonito live bait out this beast of a fish came in hot and literally ripped the bait out of Graham’s hand and they released the fish at a good 900+ pounds!

Well done boys!!!

Blue Marlin on LEGASEA

24th & 25th September 2026

Slower day again and fish eating funny!!!

Aboard LINENE we game fished for a couple hours for both morning’s and and caught some YFT, bonnies and pulled the hook on a sailfish – all light tackle stuff!!! But did have one Marlin lure out and missed a Black!

GRANDE AZUL lost a blue and raised one more that did not switch, VELEIRO missed a striped and lost a small Black, SPANISH FLY raised a black on live bait did not eat & WAVE RUNNER missed / lost two little Blacks on the light tackle!

BAIT – YFT and bonito on light tackle aboard LINENE

26th September 2026

Again aboard LINENE we went out early in the morning for a couple hours of light tackle game-fishing with Scott & Donna. We then came back for breakfast and late morning decided to go out and try and get Scott’s first ever Marlin. All boats fishing reported some slow fishing but we got lucky and within an hour hooked up and released Scoot ‘s first ever Marlin, a small Blue that ate the Ahi Pussy!!!

DUR missed a Blue, GRANDE AZUL raised 2 striped Marlin and missed one…

We again light tackle game-fished for a couple hours early morning and caught a bunch of bonnies (stocking up on bait) and did have a couple Marlin lures and missed a small Black in 35 meters of water!

Back for breakfast at 9am!

GRANDE AZUL had a better day up north going 3 for 2 on  Blacks and raising another. They missed a #700, then caught two small fish on live and dead baits!

VELEIRO went 1 from 1 on Blacks on a lure

GAME CHANGER went 2 from 2 on Blues out wide

Then, as everyone in southern Africa knows…a seriously big front moved in on the 29th and its still blowing hard as we write this.

This will certainly bring some new conditions…

Let’s see what October brings…

On another note here is a beautiful tiger caught by Justin at Zinave….
