Bazaruto Marlin Fishing Update: It’s been an odd year to say the least at Bazaruto especially when it comes to the lack of bait and the slower than normal inshore light tackle game fishing off the Island. But, the Blue Marlin of the Archipelago has been absolutely on fire since May and through our very light winter.
As soon as the water come down from the unusually high 30c odd degrees in early May the amount of Yellowfin tuna and skipjack action out wide was absolutely incredible and, of course, with it unbelievable Marlin action
This carried on through June and July albeit very few boats took advantage of it as normally most anglers coming this time of year are, unfortunately, not so keen on the heavy tackle stuff.
But the fish were still there and about three weeks ago during the first week of August we did a couple of trips wide and found some pretty good action.
After an almost non existing winter with very placid seas and nice temperatures, when it was supposed to start warming up, a massive cold front hit the eastern coast of southern Africa and temperatures plunged and even in warm Mozambique we had some pretty chilled early mornings.
When conditions finally allowed for us to get out there and despite water being the coldest it’s been this year the bite absolutely exploded!

Two Blue Marlin releases for Tristan Saunders
@bruce_cook_fishing_charters and @capta.incharlie experienced an incredible day last week when they took their lighties out to catch their first Marlin.
They ended raising a total of 7 fish, pulling the hook on one and the young lads released 4 Marlin including two for _tristan_saunders_
It did not stop there and actually just got better with some incredible numbers on both…
Blue and Striped Marlin!
On Tuesday Umkhulu went 6 from 10 on including 4 Blues to #500 and 2 Striped out of a triple header.
The next day they went 5 from 6
Bohica also had an amazing action packed day with 5 fish releases from 10 bites, including 3 stripes also from a triple header!
And so it continues…

But things also seem to be changing inshore with boats reporting some light tackle action on wahoo, sailfish and some nice King Mackerel and of course some…
Black Marlin!
There have been a few rats caught on game fishing lures and Joshua from @azuraretreats also reporting some good action on smaller Black Marlin between 100 to 300 pounds the last few days in the shallower water of V Mile!

And then there’s some good Yellowfin Tuna!
Since May there has been a tremendous amount of YFT and Skipjack tuna out wide in the Blue Marlin grounds and some good fish in excess of 40 kilos have been caught.
This last week boats reported quite a good number of fish in the 20 kilos.
We had Phil Richard & family on a day out with the boys on Drop Your Rods and they had a great day with some nice size Yellowfin Tuna, some other game fish, pulled the hooks on a Marlin and some great whale sightings in beautiful calm weather.
