Mid-September crazy Marlin bite!
One has got to love the unpredictability and mysteries of the Ocean – at a time when most oceans are seeing some unseasonal high water temperatures due to this super El-Nino the ocean on the Bazaruto Archipelago is at its lowest for the year but surprisingly enough with one of the best Blue Marlin bites ever experienced in the area.
After an almost non existent winter we finally had some cold fronts moving in mid August and another one this last week and the Marlin bite out wide which as been steady since mid May as just reached new zenith’s with the few boats that have brought out the heavy tackle gear seeing amazing numbers on a daily basis.

Striped Marlin on lure
We almost seem like a broken record – but it has been absolutely phenomenal and reports of 4 to 6 bites per boat are coming in daily with the best days having seen up to 10 fish raised by a boat in a single day.
Most of the Blues have been around the #300 pound range although a few better fish north of 500 have been released in the last couple weeks and, recently, a good number of Striped Marlin have joined the party.
This is even before most boats have even started the season yet!!!!
Obviously with this exciting bite out deep there has been minimal effort on the regular shallower Black Marlin grounds but a number of smaller fish up to #300 have been released since the beginning of September – and we all know this is just going to get EXPONENTIALLY better!!!

A couple recent pictures from the action…

Blue Marlin release aboard Strenue
The boys aboard Strenue had a couple short days full of action in early September releasing 2 fish out of 5 bites with a couple more fish raised!

Black Marlin caught on swim bait…

Good size Striped Marlin
Earlier in the week Joshua from @azura fishing on Marlin 2 had a good day releasing a Striped and a Black Marlin from 4 bites, on the same day and up north Bruce went 3 from 5 on two blues and a striped!

Yeah, just phenomenal – as I write this we had another cranking day with Veleiro going 4 from 6 and seeing a few more, Dean had 5 bites, hooked three and released one, Bruce went 1 from 4 with one quality fish and DUR 1 from 2 pulling the hooks on a #400 Blue.
Everyone reported lots of life out there, some beefy YFT to 40 kg and dorado to 15kg!
